cinderella, the sister and the stepsister

This Cinderella is not as dumb as the famous Cinderella; she is not that flaky or she hasn’t the sweet temper of the original one –she just has a temper.

This one was not used as a maid  nor she never would need a fairy godmother to help her put her shit together and get her ass to the ball – she can get the damn taxi herself. This one would never leave a shoe behind no matter how late she was. Something else, maybe, but shoes are shoes, and shoes are sacred.

This Cinderella has only one sister, older and no necessarily uglier, despite her ugly personality. Lets call her… sister. Despite the fact that they are blood sisters, Cinderella has wondered most of her adult life how they can be so different. Let me clear something up, Cinderella ain’t no saint, but she is honest, she doesn’t lie, knows how to keep a secret between siblings and would never –never did- stab one of them in the back.

The time while Cinderella was having the time of her life in the city of the forbidden fruit, sister abandoned her man to find another one. She did it in a very dishonest way, but Cinderella was always her embroidered pillow.

Time went by and sister married this man and she went from hiding to trophy. Somewhere along that process, Cinderella wonder if the ceremony in the Town Hall provided some lobotomy services along with the marriage certificate.

Sister became stepsister.

A wheel of unfortunate events turned Cinderella’s world up side down. Flip it twice –or three times, and turn it once again. This time, the worst in her life, she realized she would have to had to leave a blank on the square “sisters that helped”. But then Cinderella did her work-out, rolled up her sleeves and flipped the wheel one more time -putting the clock with the 12 on the top and the 6 on the bottom.

Stepsister did not like that shit a bit.

Because Cinderella put on her heels again, this ones better and taller that the ones before, and walked through the crowd with survival pride. And everybody clapped. As opposite, stepsister had to get always some help –mostly from a man- to stand up and be herself. And the fact that Cinderella never needed help pissed her off beyond reason.

And every step Cinderella moved forward on her shoes, stepsister’s envy grew bigger and bigger.

The end (I wish)

.

Envy: an emotion that occurs when a person lacks another’s (perceived) superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it.

This posting marks a worthy end to the theme for August: Green. Envy is the most green of all emotions – it is, in Norway – and probably in many other countries, stronger than the sex drive.

The only thing I know about, which is close to being as green, is an inexperienced young man who has never fucked. It ends, usually.

    Envy never ends.

    • Thank you. You know how I struggled with this post, but I had to do it. Period.

An inexperienced young man who has never fucked it may be green as inexperience, right, but not green as envy… since it has nothing to compare himself to…

That expression exists in English and Spanish, but I dont know in Norwegian. Does it?

  2. Sometimes it is the family we choose who we can truly count on the most.

I have no sisters, but I have several friends who have been treated so poorly by theirs that it has made me often feel this is a blessing.

    • You are absolutely right, Shawn.
I love her, no doubt about it… I just don’t like her.

    Green of envy,
    Grønn av misunnelse
    Misunnelsen er sterkere enn kjønnsdriften

    Det er kanskje universelle sannheter?

    • Green of envy I know is universal. Green as inexperienced we use in English and Spanish; I just wondered if is used in Norwegian also…
